Description and Holding Information
Derbyshire, [between 1886 and 1907], Domesday Book for the County of Derby
The Domesday Book for the County of Derby. Reprinted from “The Feudal History of the County of Derby” (chiefly during the 11th, 12th, and 13th
Centuries). By John Pym Yeatman, Esq. Published by Bemrose & Sons (London and Oxford [1886]). 88 p. This document consists of a manuscript record of a
survey of lands done in the centuries noted. (The first section states: “The great importance of this work [arises] because prior to this period writing
was rarely used, either in the transfer or in the dealing with lands and manors, and it is the first fiscal record that we possess. … [T]he Book of
Domesday is the first account we possess of the tenures of English estates, and so far as regards Derbyshire, the only comprehensive record for a
considerable period.”)
