1903-, Session Laws
Session laws of the Legislative Assembly of the Yukon Territory: title varies, 1902–, Dawson/Whitehorse, var. state printers, series continues. (The
area that became the Yukon Territory was part of the much larger “North-West Territory” acquired by the Canadian government from the Hudson’s Bay
Company in 1870, and was at first administered as part of Canada’s N.W.T. With a rising population following the gold rush of the 1890s, the need arose
for local government; so that in 1895 the Yukon was made into a separate district and in 1898 was constituted as a separate territory, with its capital
at Dawson. The initial government consisted of a federally-appointed commissioner, a fourteen-member unicameral Legislative Assembly, and a
five-member cabinet appointed by the majority party in the Assembly. These session laws comprise the annual legislative output of the Assembly, which first met
in 1902. The capital was moved to Whitehorse in 1952.)
