February 19, 1754 Proclamation issued by Governor Robert Dinwiddie to encourage Virginian to enlist into military service. As a reward for so defending the colony against the French and hostile Indians and for good behavior and proper service, the governor promised a land and had no payment of quit-tents for the first fifteen years.
