Board of Public Works. Special report on tolls on salt, 1842
|
|
Doc. No. 61 Special report of the Board of Public Works in answer to a resolution of the Senate in relation to tolls on salt. February 5, 1842. The Senate wanted to know everything about salt shipment, tolls, local and out-of-state salt and how Ohio salt was treated in other states. The Board presented Board minutes and a table of rates. It was trying to maximize revenue and protect local salt without driving other shippers away. It thought that salt produced in Kenhawn [Google search did not help] was undercutting the Ohio product.
