Doc. No. 44 Special report of the Auditor of State [Ohio] in reply to a resolution of the Senate relative to the defalcations of collectors of
canal tolls, Senate, January 26, 1841. The Auditor was asked to provide the names of any collectors who had misused money. Five men were listed and four
were still in arrears in the fall, one for $28,563! He paid up in December.
