January 2, 1847 transmission by North Carolina Governor William A Graham of correspondence of the Secretary and subordinate officers of the United
States War Department regarding the raising a regiment of state volunteers to serve during the United States-Mexican War. Of note, the governor
indicated that he adopted the proposal to muster volunteers by existing companies as a way to better serve the military. (Digitized from a microfilm copy
