<1765>- Governor's Messages to the North Carolina General Assembly. Of note, Governor Josiah Martin, the last of the governor of the Royal Colony of North Carolina, condemned the "engines of sedition" in his 1775 message (LLMC. 21297-1775-001). LLMC 21297.1785.002 contained the list of public property used in the governor's message of 1785 (21297.1785.001). In addition, LLMC #21297.1850.001 contained a discussion of President Zachary Taylor's death on July 9, 1850. Governor Charles Manly advised the General Assembly to "hold fast the union of the States," despite the unease of the Southern and Northern states and discussions of states' rights. The 1860 message estimated that of the annual revenue of the surplus products, $11,000,000 of the $12,000,000 was resulting "directly and immediately from slave labor (see, page 24 of LLMC #21297-1860). (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the University of North Carolina Library at Chapel Hill, North Carolina Department of Archives and History, and the Library of Congress).
