Secretary of the Commonwealth. Abstract of returns of the bounties paid for wheat and silk, 1841
Senate No. 25 Abstracts showing the amount of bounty paid for the raising of wheat and silk, as submitted by the Secretary of the Commonwealth on
February 10, 1841. The wheat tables were organized first by county and then by town. The numbers showed the bounty amount paid in 1839 and 1840.
The figures for 1841 were not yet audited. There was an aggregate table that showed that Worcester and Berkshire counties were the prime producers.
Beginning on p. 19, the silk farmers were listed by name with production figures and bounty paid for each year from 1836 to 1840. The 1841 numbers had
not been audited. There was a sizable increase in production in 1840. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of
Congress).
