Bank Commissioners. Report on banks charging for exchange and their rates, 1840
|
|
House No. 40 On February 24, 1840, in response to a legislative request, the Bank Commissioners sent in a report on bank rates of exchange. Massachusetts banks and their charges were first, followed by a long list of banks along the eastern seaboard and their rates, and a discussion of rates at country banks. The Commissioners thought charges of more than 1% were high. The Commissioners and the banks wanted some sort of sign of approval of current practices from the Legislature. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
