House. Comm. on Manufactures. Report and resolves, 1841
House No. 75 The Committee on Manufactures considered the tariff question. People in Massachusetts were very much in favor of tariffs generally.
Resolves relating to the revenue laws and the laws regulating trade of the United States, 1841. A crisis seemed to have developed and a revision of
the trade policy seemed to be called for. In response to expressions of opinion from other states: Resolved: when setting duties, the government
needs to discriminate between what can be made here and what can only be made overseas. Resolved: Doing this carefully would benefit all parts of the
country. Don't make the duties exorbitant, either. The Committee asked the Governor to share the resolve with other states and the Congressional
delegation. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
