House. Comm. on Finance. Report of Feb. 1st recommitted, 1832
House No. 47 The House Committee on Finance was asked to consider whether the Legislature had the power to forego the state tax for any given year.
Apparently there had been discussion about using the income from the militia settlement and possibly a large sale of the public lands to allow the
state to not levy a tax for two years. The Committee felt it was technically possible to do that, but perhaps not wise; it would be the equivalent of
blowing all one's savings and then having nothing to fall back on. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts
State Library).
Title:   The Committee of Finance, to whom was recommited a report of February 1st, upon the finances of the Commonwealth, with instructions to inquire whether it be necessary to lay a state tax in order to secure an equal and just assessment of county taxes according to the last valuation report.
