House. Comm. on Agriculture. Report to promote the growing of the mulberry tree, 1831
House No. 55 The Committee on Agriculture was asked to see if it was expedient to support silk culture. On February 24, 1831, the Committee
submitted a report in which it enthused about the opportunities for a relatively easy cultivar for which there was a large market and the work could be done
by women and children. On the same day, the Committee offered a Resolve: the Governor would cause a concise how-to manual to be written and
distributed around the state, with $600 available for expenses. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State
Title:   The Committee on Agriculture, to whom was referred the order "to inquire into the expediency of adopting measures to promote the growing of the mulberry tree, and the culture of silk" have had that subject under consideration and ask leave to submit the following report.
