|
|
SEE ALSO 51747 Senate No. 18 On January 11, 1827, the Committee on Manufactures was directed to study the laws for mills. The House received notice of the study the same day. The Committee presented An Act in addition to an Act entitled An Act for the support and regulation of mills, 1827. A mill owner could divert a stream on his own property or on the property of an agreeable land owner with banks and sluices and gates, but must guide the water back to the river in the most expeditious way. Any land owner negatively affected by the diversion was at liberty to sue for damages. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
