Senate. Comm. on the Judiciary. Report on the documents from Georgia on the election of the President, 1827
|
|
Senate No. 7 Committee on the Judiciary reported on documents from the State of Georgia sent via the Governor. Georgia wanted to arrange for a law to prevent the election of the President of the United States from ending up in the House of Representatives. Georgia feared that the artful use of patronage would thwart the will of the people. The Committee felt that both times the eventuality had occurred so far, the House did the right thing. The Committee was suspicious that Georgia did not want a particular candidate to win and that desire was driving its effort. "You can't always get what you want." The Committee declined to pursue the matter. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
