Boston, 1782, Meeting of Freeholders
|
|
A meeting held on September 6, 1782 at Faneuil Hall moderated by Samuel Adams. The document, printed in two columns, summarizes what must have been the sense of the assembled on that day concerning the level of trade with the enemy ... i.e. the British. The assembly voted the approval of 10 resolutions to curb these practices. Details of the meeting are recorded in two pages of purple prose. The tenor encouraged everyone to continue the boycott of British goods and once again attempted to gin up support for cadres of people who would snoop around looking for violators. Informers were encouraged to do their "patriotic" duty to turn in scoff-laws. The group sent a circular letter to other Towns, urging their support.
