Title:
To the Honorable Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled : the trustees of Amherst College, having assiduously labored to carry into effect, as fast as they were able, the wise and liberal purposes of the Legislature in the establishment of that institution, are constrained by existing circumstances to lay before your honorable bodies a brief sketch of its present situation and prospects, with the confident hope, that the government will make such provision for its relief, as after due consideration, a wise regard to the public interests may seem to require.
