1826, Remonstrance against division of the Town of Mendon
On October 3 of an unnamed year, but likely 1826, the inhabitants of Mendon voted 90-45 to send a remonstrance to the General Court. During the
previous legislative session, a petition was sent by some inhabitants of Mendon asking to divide the town into two towns. The remonstrance pointed out
several errors of geography in the first petition and finally argued that it was better to be a large town than a small one and the management of a
large town was more efficient. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
