April 15, 1723 Proclamation issued by Acting Governor William Drummer following instances of arson in Boston by "villanous & desperate Negroes" and
others. The proclamation requested all to help find the person involved, with a reward of fifty pounds. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of a title
originally held by the Massachusetts Historical Society Library).
Title:   By the Honourable William Dummer Esq ; ... A proclamation : Whereas within some short time past many fires have broke out within the town of Boston, and divers buildings have been thereby consumed ; which fires have been designedly and industriously kindled by some villanous & desperate Negroes, or other dissolute people ... Given at the Council chamber in Boston the fifteenth day of April, 1723.
