|
|
1856 Majority report of the committee on Secret Societies which was part of the governor's message. The governor was concerned about the division of society into classes or clans and warned of a war of races, and particularly concerned with the American Party (also called the "Know Nothing" party). The committee was not concerned after discussion and thus proposed a resolution that the committee be discharged.
