Commissioners to Settle with the Sureties of B.D. Peck. Report, 1860
Report of the Committee appointed to settle with sureties of Benjamin D. Peck, late Treasurer of Maine, 1860. Initially, the surety for 1858 owed
$14,356 and for 1859, $62,563. However, there were second thoughts about who owed what if the amounts were based on the effective dates of the bonds.
The surety for 1859 was charged $37,585, which he bargained to $7,000 cash and three annual notes of $10,000 each. The 1858 surety was charges
$35,192, but that person had not answered the summons. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
