Thirty-seventh Legislature. House. No. 18 Memorial [from the citizens of Piscataquis County, February 10, 1858] There was a large bed of slate and
iron in their county, so the citizens asked to be included in the railroad survey planned for Aroostook County and to also have a geological survey
made. That took two paragraphs. A local quarryman then spent nine pages explaining about slate vs. timber, quarrying, transportation costs, and
market values. Resolve: when making the Aroostook railroad survey, the mineral areas of Piscataquis County be included. Resolve: the local land agent
