1838, Petition of James Hawes and 79 others
|
|
1838 Petition of James Hawes and seventy-nine others seeking that the Court of Common Pleas be abolished. Various reasons included the length it took for a judgment and the cost for bringing cases that were not heard during the term, resulting in nuisance settlements. Petitioners also sought to change the debtor's law, noting that the current process required suits from each creditor instead of a joint process. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Library of Congress).
