History of trial by jury: by William Forsyth, xv + 468 p. London, John W. Parker and Son, 1852. ( In the preface the author notes that with the exception of articles no extensive history of trial by jury exits. Chapters discuss the nature of the jury system, the judicial system of the anglo-saxons, and the jury ceasing to be witnesses and becoming judges of evidence. The last few chapters discuss trial by jury in France, Germany, and English State prosecutions. Footnotes cite to both primary and secondary sources. The table of contents begins on p.xi and a subject index begins on p.465.)
