Military Board. Special report, 1861
Special report of the Military Board to the Legislature of the State of Louisiana. Baton Rouge: J.M. Taylor, 1861. The Military Board was to raise,
arm, and equip military companies. It had contracted for European small arms, defined a company and all its officers and troops, adopted an
instruction manual, and made enlistment forms to be signed by various levels of fighters. There was a list of the companies formed, largely geographical in
title. The Board planned to do work on forts to get them ready for battle. It recommended the formation of a government Military Bureau to manage the
money and recommended that while some troops should be in readiness, most should stand down until called. There was a list of expense warrants
already drawn.
