Joint Select Comm. Appointed to Investigate the State Treasurer … Report, 1856
|
|
September 12, 1856 Report of the Joint Select Committee regarding an investigation of the financial books of the State Treasury, Secretary of State, and School and University Commissioners prior to January 1, 1856. Of note, the committee found that if judicious oversight on the school fund had occurred, there could be considerable more money in the fund for the benefit of the state. The Treasury Office's was also found to be disorganized and with poor financial practices. Included were evidence and financial statements regarding the areas of investigations. The second document was a reply to to a request that the commissioners of the sate fund be allowed to meet with the committee and produce rebutting testimony. After consideration, the committee determined that their report was appropriate and the rebuttal was insufficient to overcome the evidence of mismanagement. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Library of Congress).
