Board of Public Works. Special report on water to Ohio Canal, 1842
Doc. No. 66 Special report of the Board of Public Works [Ohio] in answer to a resolution from the Senate, relative to a further supply of water for
the Ohio Canal near Massillon. February 15, 1842. The Senate wanted to know why the Scipio or Tuscarawas River water wasn't channeled into the
canal or impounded for use as needed. The Board said it had planned the canal so it would be easy to dam the Tuscarawas near Massillon for extra water,
but it wasn't needed at the time. Last year, a group of landowners on the Scipio offered to build a dam on that river and give the state first dibs
on the water in return for some monetary help with construction. The Board was in favor of the proposal, but thought the Legislature should choose
between the two sites.
