1872, Constitution and schedule adopted in Convention
|
|
Constitution and schedule adopted in convention at Charleston, on April 9, 1872. Of note, on August 22, 1872, West Virginians ratified a new state constitution by less than 5,000 votes, while rejecting a separate proposal that would have restricted office-holding to whites only. With amendments, this is the present constitution in West Virginia. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
