Senate. Comm. on Charitable Institutions. Special report on Insane Asylum management, 1859
Special report of the Committee on Charitable Institutions relative to the management of the insane asylum of Jackson to the Legislature of the State
of Louisiana. Baton Rouge : J.M. Taylor, 1859. There had been complaints about the management of the hospital, so the Committee was asked to
investigate. The management and the Board were very cooperative. The group did a thorough investigation and were convinced the administration was doing a
good job. They explained about the private pay patients; owners were charged $12.50/month for any enslaved patients. The Committee decided the
dissatisfaction arose because the hospital's Board had raised the salaries of the Superintendent and physician and had done away with a matron's position.
