Senate. Comm. on Charitable Institutions. Special report on Insane Asylum management, 1859
|
|
Special report of the Committee on Charitable Institutions relative to the management of the insane asylum of Jackson to the Legislature of the State of Louisiana. Baton Rouge : J.M. Taylor, 1859. There had been complaints about the management of the hospital, so the Committee was asked to investigate. The management and the Board were very cooperative. The group did a thorough investigation and were convinced the administration was doing a good job. They explained about the private pay patients; owners were charged $12.50/month for any enslaved patients. The Committee decided the dissatisfaction arose because the hospital's Board had raised the salaries of the Superintendent and physician and had done away with a matron's position.
