1869-70, Illinois Constitutional Convention Debates + 1st Index
Debates and proceedings of the Constitutional Convention of the State of Illinois; Convened at Springfield, Tuesday, December 13, 1869: Ely, Burnham
& Bartlett, official stenographers, Vol. 1-2, 1,896+ index, 132p, , Springfield, IL, E.L. Merritt & Bro., 1870; Plus separate index compiled by the
Legislative Research Bureau, 31 p., Springfield, Schnepp & Barnes, printer, 1919, all published. The convention adjourned sine die on 13 May 1870. The
second index is divided into three sections: subjects, articles and sections, and business of the convention. It’s preface states that it was compiled
because the index included in Vol. 2 of the main work was “not satisfactory.” If the second index is in fact superior, it is something of a model of
economy; its 24 pages comparing to 132 pages in the original. Vol. 2 of the main work contains the text of the approved and earlier constitutions as
follows: 1818, starts at p. 1889; 1848, starts at p. 1881; & 1870, starts at p. 1871. (The second copy of each volume was digitized from a microfilm
copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
