Description and Holding Information
Chouteau, Journal, 1762-63 [btw 1810 & 1820] (MS) (Fr.)
1762-63 Manuscript journal, in French, of Auguste Chouteau regarding the founding of Saint Louis, Missouri. Of note, he was one of the founders of
this city, as well as a successful fur trader and a politician. The account was written much later, ca. 1810-1820. Chouteau's version has been
frequently criticized as being enhanced by imperfect recollection. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the St. Louis Mercantile
Library).
