1894, Principal Chief Perryman's Reply to Dawes Commission
Message of the Chief of the Muskogees and reply of the National Council in Extraordinary Session on April 4, 1894 to the Dawes Commission. The
message and resolutions of the Council rebuffed the attempt of the commission to persuade the tribes to support its policy of cession and allotment,
whereby the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek (Muscogee), and Seminole would cede tribal title of Indian lands, dividing them into individual allotments.
The tribal government would also be eliminated and replaced with a territorial form of government. A notation dated April 5, 1935 indicated that
Mrs. Grant Foreman (see Collection of Grant Foreman, Muskogee, OK)considered this a rare book. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally
held by the Kansas State Historical Society Library).
