Secretary of the Commonwealth. Report on receipt of Revolutionary War documents, 1841
House No. 10 On January 20, 1841, S. F. Haven, the librarian, reported on the processing of the Revolutionary War papers gathered by the Secretary
of the Commonwealth. The goal had been to provide evidence of payment of wages for soldiers, contractors, etc., with $700 to pay for the effort.
Haven found almost 8400 names. The American Antiquarian Society sent hundreds of similar papers on permanent loan, wherein were well over 14,000 names.
The final cost was just about $600, so Haven was under budget. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of
Congress).
