1867, Inventory of materials on hand at the Penitentiary on Apr. 1, 1862

Hart & Co., agents for the State of Louisiana. There were five pages of very specific listings of the contents of a weaving shop, a blacksmith shop, a
cooperage and other workshops. The recapitulation on p. 7 showed a value of $64,723, with everything turned over to McHatton & Pike & Co. on April
1, 1862. Then followed six pages of equipment including engines, weaving equipment, lots of belting, kitchen and dining equipment, mattresses, night
pots--everything in the buildings. The value was $151,867 and all the things went to McHatton & Pike & Co. on April 1, 1862. No explanation was
provided, but the penitentiary must have closed.
