n.d., The Intrigue of Co[u]rts (MS)
|
|
Undated manuscript entitled "The Intrigue of Co[u]rts," which was part denunciation of Edmund Andros, King James II, and Roman Catholics and part praise for Mr. Sherman, a man from a town in Rhode Island, who refused to surrender his gun after the governor ordered all citizens to surrender their arms and store same with the militia. This manuscript lauded Sherman's actions, which, the author noted, were essentially forgotten in history. The document also condemned Andros, and apparently the English courts which dismissed charges against him following the overthrow of the Dominion of New England. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of a title originally held by the Library of Congress).
