1849-02-07, Governor's communication re: V. Coolidge [Senate]
February 7, 1849 Governor John W. Dana's communication to the Council regarding the conviction of Valorus P. Coolidge of a capital offense, and
whether he should issue a warrant for execution. Of note, the governor concluded that duty to so issue after o year was required under the law although he
acknowledged that this interpretation was different from most opinions. Thus Dana requested that the Council commute the sentence to life, or he
would be required to issue the warrant. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held the Library of Congress).
