Adjutant General. Report on the number of men mustered into service of the U.S., 1864
Forty-third Legislature. Senate. No. 2. On January 27, 1864, the Adjutant General submitted tables of the number of men called for military service
by the United States. The 12 pages of tables were organized first by county, then towns in each county, a column of the whole number of men, with
further columns of each call up from April 1961 to October 1863, including the length of enlistment. The recap showed just over 40,000 men were
mustered. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine State Library and the Library of Congress).
