Description and Holding Information
Land Office. Report on value of public lands, 1864
Forty-third Legislature. House. No. 33. On March 21, 1864, the assistant land agent sent information to the House; the land agent had died. There
was no data about the value of the land, but Mr. Clark thought the state would be lucky to realize 50c/acre. Five pages of tables showed the amount of
land open in each county, tracts open for settlement, tracts for common schools not yet sold, tracts forfeit to the State, and timber lots leased by
Massachusetts years ago, with a recap at the end. Aroostook and Somerset counties still had large amounts of open land. (Digitized from a microfilm
copy of title originally held by the Maine State Library and the Library of Congress).
Title:   Sir : -- An order of the House dated February 25th, directed to the Land Agent, was delayed in the hope that he would, within a brief time, resume his duties and furnish the House with an elaborate reply to the order.
