Land Office. Report on Land Agent's activities during prior year, 1864
Forty-third Legislature. House. No. 10. The Land Agent, Hiram Chapman, started the job in March 1863. He was out in the field for eight months. He
was responsible for 80 townships, field inquiries, and had to examine and approve timber permits, so, yes, he needed a clerk. He included his office
expenses, with an occasional expense of copying maps to save the originals. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine
State Library and the Library of Congress).
Title:   To the Speaker of the House of Representatives : Sir: --In answer to the order of the House of Representatives, passed the 18th instant, requesting the Land Agent "to furnish to the House a written statement of the number of days he has been employed during the past year upon the public lands, and how many days in the Land Office ... ".
