Senate. Comm. on Public Lands. Resolutions, 1826 Jan. 27
|
|
On January 27, 1826, the Senate Committee on Public Lands submitted a Resolve to allow two more years for grantees and land owners to get the required number of settlers on their lands. In 1791, two million acres were sold to developers with stipulations about the number of settlers required to generate deeds from the State, as well as other financial requirements. The Committee discussed parts of the original agreement, followed by three pages of lists of tracts and settlers, further followed by eight pages of charts with similar information. As late as 1826, there still were not enough settlers to fulfill all the original requirements. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
