1745-10, Treaty held in Albany
|
|
October 1745 Treaty of the Six Nations, comprised of the Iroquois nations of the Mohawk, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Seneca and Tuscarora people (although the Senecas did not attend), and the Commissioners for the Provinces of Massachusetts, Connecticut and held in Albany. This account by Thomas Lawrence and John Kinsey was addressed to Governor George Thomas and published by Benjamin Franklin in 1746. Included in this treaty was an agreement for the tribes to assist the English should the French Indians continued hostilities; in addition, the tribes acknowledged that the rumors that the English wanted to destroy them were untrue. The account also noted that some of the chiefs visited the government in Canada; they were reminded that the French were their enemies. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by Yale University Library in New Haven, Connecticut).
