Forty-fifth Legislature. House. No. 59. (Foster draft) The Committee on the Judiciary submitted: An Act to amend chapter eighteen of the Revised
Statutes concerning ways, 1866. Anytime there was a jury hearing about property damage, a person "well-versed in the law" had to preside and give a
detailed report of the findings to the court. Either party could ask for the findings to be set aside and the case heard in court. (Digitized
