Forty-fifth Legislature. House. No. 13. The Committee on the Judiciary submitted: An Act providing for the recording of certificates of discharge of soldiers and seamen from the service of the United States, 1866. The county registers of deeds were to keep records of the certificates. If an original certificate were lost, the copy held by the register could be used as evidence. However, there was no requirement in the act for a serviceman to bring his certificate to the register's office. Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine Historical Society Library, the Maine State Library, and the Library of Congress).
