Forty-fourth Legislature. Senate. No. 9. The Committee on the Judiciary submitted: An Act to amend chapter two-hundred thirty-nine of the public laws of eighteen hundred sixty four, 1865. If a town, as an entity, chose not to defend itself against an action, a group of ten or more citizens could respond and charge the costs to the town. If a town chose not to sue about some issue, a similar group of citizens could do so on the town's behalf and charge the costs to the town. No examples or explanations were provided.
