Forty-third Legislature. Senate. No. 4. The Committee on State Lands and State Roads submitted: Resolve in aid of the construction of the Milford and Princeton Turnpike for a military road [1864?] The Resolve directs $20,000 be appropriated for the road, with the route defined. When the company had spent $10,000, it could apply for $10,000, and when the road was completed, it could have the remaining money. There followed an explanation of the difficulties of travel, especially for heavy equipment and loads. If the company could start soon, it could complete the road by winter. It would save ten hours of travel time and lots of money on mail transport. The Adjutant General's letter of support claimed tension at the northeast border required good transportation for troops and equipment, plus the arsenal at Bangor needed to be stocked.
