SEE ALSO 56083 Forty-third Legislature. House. No. 22. An Act additional to an act to secure the safety and convenience of travelers on railroads, passed in the year 1858, 1864. In addition to their annual inspection of each railroad, the Railroad Commissioners could respond to two or more complaints about a railroad. They could tell the directors of the road to fix any unsafe condition; until repairs were completed, the road had to operate at low speed. If the directors failed to act promptly, the Commissioners could file suit in the Supreme Judicial Court to close the railroad.
