SEE ALSO 56356 Forty-second Legislature. House. No. 3. The Committee on Federal Relations presented: Resolves relating to national affairs. "Whereas, slavery is the conceded cause and prime support of the existing gigantic rebellion ..." the legislators noted that slaves were forced into endless work in support of the Confederate Army. They were pleased with Lincoln's emancipation proclamation, the idea of compensated emancipation, and the use of former slaves in the Union Army. They were also in favor of unconditional surrender.
