SEE ALSO 56205 Thirty-ninth Legislature. Senate. No. 5. The Committee on the Judiciary submitted: An Act to provide for inquests in cases of suspected arson, 1860. Within ten days of a building fire, anyone could file a complaint with the court alleging a suspicious fire. The constable would assemble six men to serve as a jury, hear testimony from witnesses, etc. and give the judge their verdict. These proceedings had the same fee structure as a coroner's inquest.
