Report of the Joint Select Committee to whom was referred the communication of the Governor in relation to the claims of Maine under the Treaty of Washington ... There was a long and complicated land history in the Madawaska area, populated by French settlers of ancient origin. Resolve: the State should purchase all the lots in six named townships in Aroostook County, provided the United States pays Maine's claim, as outlined in article 4 of the Treaty.
