Joint Select Comm. on Slavery. Reports, 1843
|
|
March 4, 1843 Report of the Joint Select Committee regarding the petitions requesting various anti-slavery positions. Noting that the ten petitions were all similar in wording, the majority concluded that it could not allow officials to ignore the federal laws regarding fugitive slaves; the minority disagreed and argued that the state should not be required to assist in the return of slaves.
