House. Comm. on Anatomy. Report, 1839
|
|
March 1839 Report of the Joint Select Committee regarding the petition of Abiel Hall and others on the subject of legalizing practical anatomy in order to obtain necessary surgical skills. After discussion, the committee proposed a bill which would legalize the study of anatomy for this purpose, by using all bodies of criminals who die in prison, would otherwise be buried at public expense, and not claimed in 24 hours. However, the bill also provided protections from grave robbing, with penalties and possible imprisonment. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Library of Congress).
